Magnitude 8.2 Earthquake Off Coast Off Sumatra
Mar 28, 2005 - LONDON (Reuters) - An 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck in the sea off the coast of Sumatra, the U.S. Geological Survey told Reuters Monday.

A USGS spokeswoman said the quake struck 125 miles west northwest off Sibolga, Sumatra or 880 miles northwest of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, close to where a 9.0 December quake triggered a devastating Tsunami in Asia.

The USGS spokeswoman could not say if the quake would trigger a Tsunami.

A large earthquake was registered Monday off Indonesia's Sumatra Island, the U.S. Geological Survey reported, describing it as a "great earthquake" with a magnitude of 8.2 on the Richter scale.
The USGS advised officials in the area to move people inland, and Thai officials were among the first to issue a tsunami warning for the Andaman Sea.

No reports of injury or damage had been received from the region. The Dec. 26 quake that launched the massive tsunami was a 9.0, the USGS said.

Monday's quake epicenter was just off the northern Sumatra coast and between two smaller islands, and located at 18.6 miles underground. It occured at around 11 p.m. local time.

The Dec. 26 quake was also off the coast of Sumatra and just north of Monday's quake.

Powerful quake rocks Indonesian island, downs electricity lines
JAKARTA : A powerful earthquake of measuring up to 8.5 on the Richter scale hit Indonesia's tsunami-devasted Sumatra island late Monday, causing major panic and power blackouts, officials and reports said.

The quake hit a location between the island's main cities of Pedang and Medan at around 11:15 pm (1615 GMT) and lasted up to three minutes, said Ramlan of Indonesia's Meteorological and Geophysics Office.



The earthquake was felt in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, where guests and residents evacuated high-rise hotels and apartments, an AFP correspondent said.

A spokesman for the U.S. Geological Survey told CNN that the earthquake could cause tsunamis.

"Certainly evacuations should be occurring. I hope they are," spokesman Don Blakeman said, saying of the earthquake that "it could also cause some local tsunami activity."

"Even if we do see tsunami activity it won't be as widespread as December's quake."

Blakeman said Monday's quake was considered a "great earthquake" because it is larger than a magnitude 8. He said it was an aftershock from December's temblor but is a "very serious earthquake in its own right."

There are no reports of damage yet.



if tsunamis should occur, which they most likely will considering the Dec26 earthquake and tsunami disaster, they will hit sri lanka and india in about an hour's time from now. ohmygod. i'm gonna keep a vigil. god bless them please.

i just experienced earthquake tremors! it was really serious, even more serious than the one a few years back. i am sitting on my recliner typing my previous entry when all of a sudden i hear my blinds shaking. scared me a hell lot man. i was still thinking that it's so eerie that my blinds started shaking for no good reason. then i realised i feel giddy and my recliner was shaking! can u imagine that? the leather recliner that my fat ass is on is actually shaking! and there was this dull droning sound amidst the rattling of the blinds and the music playing from my laptop.. it's scary!!


channel news asia just announced that the earthquake occured in north sumatra, registering 8.5 on the richter scale. national environment agency announced that the earthquake occured in southwestern sumatra, registering 8.2 on the richter scale. whatever it is, pls god, if u exist, pls pls pls bless those caught in the earthquake.

bgs is finally a thing of the past. im so not expecting anything better than a B or B+ for that bcos 1) caroline yeoh doesnt know who i am, 2) i am so not into ethics 3) i think minor n major project sucked. whatever. i'm still quite pissed with sy btw. blardy hell leave us to slog our a**es off on sunday nite. damn.


i dunoe, i feel like i'm in a huge gaping hole nowadays. nothing seems especially fulfilling.
it feels like something is missing all my life.


uh i had wanted to say something else but inexplicably, my mind went blank for about 5 mins and i was just staring into empty space. and i lost my train of thought.

what a week. monday was pure hell. imagine this chain of events: u were in school in sunday till 3am on monday morning just to prepare for bgs presentation because some biatch in your grp threw a tantrum and left at 10+. your presentation is at 9am the same monday and you flop it cos your prof decides all of a sudden that what would have fulfilled last week's criteria - more content - will flop this week cos this week she is looking for analysis. seriously i think this perticular grp last week didnt have both content and analysis but still they got high grades bcos of 2 guys caroline likes. ohwells. and then you have a biz law meeting at 1.30pm and u realised that u know nuts about remedies for breach of contract. biz law lesson at 3.30pm n u cant follow the lesson cos u are blardy tired, surviving only on 2 hrs of sleep and a can of coffee. then someone in your AS grp msged u to say that he cant make it for the meeting at 7pm. u are blardy pissed cos u are already so tired yet u have alr geared yourself for that tiring AS meeting later. eventually the remaining 3 in your AS grp went ahead with the meeting that lasted till 10pm. i hate mondays.


anws. went for MA workshop for the first time in a loooong while with jeremy. ahhhh. no idea how to do capital budgeting, payback periods and irr. jeremy n i were like sitting and staring at prof kta. haha. went for starry nite with hy, yv, ln and ray. eic was damn good. and yes, my new crush is jamiel.....'s voice. ohmy.. he has a terrific voice!
went for a long walk yesterday, from smu to halfway towards newton mrt. ok not too long but considering it was at 11+pm.. yes it felt long. and it felt good. walks definitely help to clear a mind.


rights, gotta go back to studying for MA now. and funny, the heaven and earth green tea i am drinking actually has froth when i pour it into my cup. reminds me of beer. hoegaarden anybody?

they dont call us a business school for nothing. smu's advertising has made my jaws drop yet again. look at the ads taken in Today. MYGOODNESS. it used to be the bend-over-backwards campaign.. now it's the "not just a student but a star" campaign. and the wham-bam radio shows.. just heard adora and shawn on over the airwaves promoting smu this morning. seriiiously if i am an A level grad trying to choose between ntu and smu, i'll be damn sure to choose smu after this HUGE scale advertising campaign.


it's the advertising - so damn brilliant! huge pictures with little words, predominantly white and clean and uncluttered.. catchy phrases like "different", "we love smu", "not just a student but a star"... simple phrases but brilliantly used. i'm impressed. hella good OUA we have here in smu.

ultimate sigh.. its back to the sick, sick cycle of projects n projects. BGS SIMPLY SUX. even AS is better. wee bit better. GAH. cant wait for all this shit to be over.

u might not bliv it but i had NO project meetings the whole of last week! WHEE! haha i was rather free! even managed to watch hitch after kickboxing on thursday with kelvina! and went shopping aft kb on sat n splurged on a top at topshop, a top n a jeans at mango and billabong slippers! HAHA shopping feels GGGOOOOOOOOODDDDD! even had the time to work today (thanks to hongyi for the great lobang!), which covered nearly half of my shopping spree yday! woot~


OH and i expressed my first anti-establishment view (so says kevin) in CT class on friday! kiveli was reading this fairytale abt a dragon which attacked a castle n abducted the prince.. then the princess went to save him but the prince, being an ass, said the princess looked so ragged aft beating the dragon... so the princess dumped him. and u know what i said?? i just said it out loud that i think that there are probably other similar stories out there but we find this one creative cos we are obliged to cos it's CT class.. woot! finally! a comment i said on impulse which gave me great satisfaction just seeing the looks on everyone's faces.


okies its back to meetings n more meetings starting next wk esp for bgs and AS, the 2 modules i absolutely cant stand, esp esp BGS. BUT BUT... IT'S GONNA BE OVER SOON! WE CAN DO IT! YVONNE DO U READ THIS? WE CAN DO IT! u with ur ltb and twc, me with my bgs and as.. WE WILL DO IT OKIES?! YOU GO GIRL!


and lastly, something to look forward to next sat: thereupatic fondue session with the girls! at hy's house! can't wait!! chocolate.. bananas.. peaches.. strawberries.. mmmm mmmmmmmmm!! wait for me, my babyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!

just wanna say thanks to tianhao. so yeah, thanks, my sounding board cyclone partner! everytime we talk, i will think of cyclone.. huiting, sijia, eugene n hantu! and yesh, eugene's watermelon and hantu's fishtail palm! wah seh if i was quanhui, i'll be super amused by us. I MISS THOSE DAYS! the olc song with our self-invented actions (thou i cant really remember the exactl whole thing now), our A+ campfire nite item, OT at gunung ulu sepat.. woot~ i re-read my loggie sometimes and i just laugh at everything.. from the leeches to the gays. HAHA. and the lost grp (dunoe got WHO haha) who got guided back by a mentos wrapper.. the locals who carried parangs and arms but yet can climb at twice our speed. and of cos not forgetting all those times in physics and econs lecture with u, me, huiting, hantu and darren.. its like, sitting together and talking crap is the reason i do not pon lectures. haha! bitching about econ tutors, physics lecturers and doing chinese hwk.. and my san ge ban times with selene, ningxia n hantu.. that period of time was one of the best!
