and as the olympics 2008 comes to a close tonite, it's time to reminisce and try to remember where all my time have gone to the past 2 weeks. it's been entertaining, i must say, and the commentators sometimes say the funniest of things - here are my top 3 (actually, the only 3 i can rem).

==number 3==
Boxing heavyweight (91kg) semi final - Clemente Russo (ITA)
"with his sense of timing, he shouldn't be italian. he should be swiss."

?!!!?!?!!!
what kind of commentary is that?!

==number 2==
Basketball preliminaries - China
"YAO MING!"
(and after yao ming's shot hits the hoop and drops for a rebound)
"well the one thing he can't do is dunk it thought the iron."
(camera feed shows yao ming looking up at the hoop)
"and he looks up just to make sure."

?!!?!?!?!!!
.......................................................

==number 1==
Basketball preliminaries - China
(this player makes a 3-pointer from some distance beyond the 3-point mark)
"and that's sun yew-yi! he made the shot from shanghai!"

HAHAHAHA..
and the best part? try as i might, i couldn't spot a Y Y Sun on any Chinese jersey.
sometime later, i finally found the player who apparently made the shot from shanghai. his name is..................

Sun Yue.

LMAO!!!!!

i told a half truth (half lie, white lie, whatever) yesterday. i guess it could be classified as a white lie, but whatever, i told it to dissipate a somewhat uncomfortable silence (at least, in my opinion). i do think it did the trick.

but i also happen to be the kind of person who believe that there is no such thing as a white lie; someone always comes away a little worse off.
well, i rather it be me then.

olympics is the culprit sucking away my online time these past 2 weeks.. i've been watching the most unlikely of sports - from boxing to weightlifting to sailing to equestrian. we seldom have the opportunity to see such rare sports; must make full use of my $2 more per month cable tv n utilise those damn hundred over channels.

lee chong wei got thrashed by lin dan - sigh. but anyways, what goes around comes around. i guess that's revenge for thomas cup.

so that explains my continued and prolonged absence from the internet on weekday nites. i'm actually using my bro's comp cos i'm lazy to switch mine on. hahaha.

we kickstarted the campaign with a 1-1 draw with the geordies (or amusingly, they were called "the prisoners" on an online article i once read, no thanks to their black n white striped jersey). which should have been disappointing considering they were our whipping boys last season, but having watched half the match (spent the other half transfixed by paula radcliffe puffing thru her marathon race), i must say this is a new-look magpies team. jonas gutherie looks to be their best buy already.
what a contrast, cos i was left scratching my head when the likes of possedon and da silva came on the pitch. who??

but anyway. i spent 1 hour waiting to see the doctor just now. 1 freaking hour! on a monday nite!
i even finished reading the newsweek magazine there! n i actually find newsweek interesting now. i remember the times in sec sch when we were forced to read newsweek during reading period and i will just flip str to "society and the arts" and pretend to read them. hands up if u rem those times. good ol' days.

shit i just realised my end of term test is this thursday n i have not studied a single thing. i didn't really keep up much this term. it really makes me wonder if i will be able to keep this up for a long time to come.
quel dilemme. hai.

friday was quite a happening nite -
supposed to meet zhilin n louis for dinner but cutting a long story short, we met the guys at raffles city instead n had dinner tgr. zhilin joined in eventually n we all headed to velvet tgr.
supposed to be matthew's farewell, but in the end, i brought the gang along, melissa brought her friends along, n it sorta became separate parties. it was keith's bday celeb too n in a bid to get the bday boy drunk, lots of funny things happened instead.
went back to look for my colleagues but they were all dispersed, ending up talking to mel's friends instead. or, trying to talk.
eventually headed to phuture for a bit before heading home.

moral of the story - long island tea kills people. n don stand in front of someone who's sitting down looking somewhat serene. that's acty a warning sign. lol.

sat nite met up with my darlings and it was a nice decent nite with dinner at shokudo, desserts at liang seah, and thereafter at an open ktv pub where i had honey lemon and the rest had juices. hahaha.

i realised that since the start of july, i've been drinking every weekend - games at jem's place, st james with colleagues, drinks with boss, and velvet on friday. in fact, the only weekend where alcohol didn't come into factor was when we went to JB. n that following week, i fell sick. HMMMMM!!!

maybe like what a colleague said (an english guy who downed several beers on an empty stomach):
alcohol is actually good, it kills off the weaker cells and leaves u with the strong ones. it's like... a wildebeest herd being hunted by lions. the lions kill off the weaker ones, leaving a much fitter and stronger herd.

lmao...

this is the story of how my 3 main social circles in smu has merged to become one BIG (male-dominated) circle.

social circle 1 = anna + ln + edmund + ray
social circle 2 = jem + leonard + jem's friends (whom i don really know back then)
social circle 3 = yv + hy + pearlyn

social circle 3 and social circle 1 know each other kinda thru me back in yr 1, so we've always been more or less kinda merged.

then the guys in social circle 1 play sunday soccer with the guys in social circle 2. and in our 4th yr, social circle 1 began to really merge with social circle 3.

so now, it's like...

social circle 1 = anna + ln + edmund + ray + hy + yv + jem + leonard + junqi + john + keith + couple of miscellaneous guys once in a while.

it's rather simple math, really.
1 + 2 + 3 = ONE
very simple hor?

i had the most awesome dream in a long time last nite.
and it felt so real, i think that in my flu drug-induced state of grogginess, i forced myself to wake up to prove that it's just a dream, then willed myself to go back to the dream.
which i think, i managed to go back for the briefest of time before the dream faded into nothingness.

omfg.

微微风涌起旧梦
拾起一片回忆如叶落
再也想不起难忘的是什么
多情多怨多伤人重
微微风涌起旧梦
月光洒满了你的行踪
再也想不起要忘记是什么
不能不愿不再多说

truth be told, even though i am kinda sick now, i am still mentally high from go karting. hahaha i feel quite sua ku actually, but really, it was my first time karting properly on a decent circuit!

and the ktv after.. 1 song that ln chose to sing was really quite old school. it's "旧梦" by 彭佳慧. really super old school, and i enjoyed singing it.

that said though, the song that i enjoyed singing the most that nite was a stef sun number - "我怀念的". it's really quite a gd one. by stef i mean.

one for the road.

再也想不起难忘的是什么
独自徘徊旧梦中

headed to jb for an eventful weekend. haven't been to jb in a long, long time actually, but i'm glad i decided to go for it in the end.

a large group of 13 of us went in together at lunch time, after which we headed for plentong for a spot of go-karting. wheeeee it was great. my first stint out on the circuit was cautious and measured.. sure i sped down the straight stretch but i sure slowed down at corners and turns. the 2nd time out on the circuit, perhaps it was because i was running with the guys, perhaps it was because i was more familiar with the circuit, i got more daring..
totally floored the accelerator on the straights, did not break at corners, and only braked at the hairpin turn. i spun out totally once, lost a bit of control a couple of times, and even had time to get into a slight accident with john and..... i drifted. oh yeah. i felt the front wheels lock, the back wheels drifted and heard the slight screeching sound. yeah granted maybe it was a fluke, i didn't actually have the technique to drift but man, it's awesome!

and then seafood dinner was awesome. the crayfish was sublime!
and we came to sg for some ktv.. it was fun, and i've got to do a special mention here, aston's voice is really quite something. i was really shocked when he did an andy lau number cos he sounded kinda like andy lau! i have videos, but dunoe if they turned out well..

all in all, a weekend well spent, and it's monday again. n oh right, month end. say it with me.. here we go again.
